حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي مَيْسَرَةَعَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ
لَمَّا نَزَلَ تَحْرِيمُ الْخَمْرِ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ بَيِّنْ لَنَا فِي الْخَمْرِ بَيَانًا شِفَاءً، فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ الَّتِي فِي [سُورَةِ] الْبَقَرَةِ يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ قُلْ فِيهِمَا إِثْمٌ كَبِيرٌ قَالَ: فَدُعِيَ عُمَرُ فَقُرِئَتْ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ بَيِّنْ لَنَا فِي الْخَمْرِ بَيَانًا شِفَاءً، فَنَزَلَتِ الْآيَةُ الَّتِي فِي [سُورَةِ] النِّسَاءِ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَقْرَبُوا الصَّلاةَ وَأَنْتُمْ سُكَارَى فَكَانَ مُنَادِي رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ نَادَى: أَنْ لَا يَقْرَبَنَّ الصَّلَاةَ سَكْرَانُ، فَدُعِيَ عُمَرُ فَقُرِئَتْ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ بَيِّنْ لَنَا فِي الْخَمْرِ بَيَانًا شِفَاءً، فَنَزَلَتِ الْآيَةُ الَّتِي فِي [سُورَةِ] الْمَائِدَةِ، فَدُعِيَ عُمَرُ فَقُرِئَتْ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُنْتَهُونَ قَالَ: فَقَالَ عُمَرُ انْتَهَيْنَا انْتَهَيْنَا.

✧ When the prohibition of wine was revealed, Umar said: 'O Allah, make clear to us about wine with a clear explanation.' Then the verse in Surat al-Baqarah was revealed: "They ask you about wine and gambling. Say: In them is great sin." Umar was called and it was recited to him, and he said: 'O Allah, make clear to us about wine with a clear explanation.' Then the verse in Surat al-Nisa was revealed: "O you who believe, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated." The caller of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he announced the prayer, would call: 'No drunken person should approach the prayer.' Umar was called and it was recited to him, and he said: 'O Allah, make clear to us about wine with a clear explanation.' Then the verse in Surat al-Ma'idah was revealed. Umar was called and it was recited to him. When he reached: "So will you desist?", Umar said: 'We desist, we desist.'
