✧ When the Children of Israel fell into acts of disobedience, their scholars forbade them, but they did not desist. Then they sat with them in their gatherings—Yazīd said: “I think he said: and their marketplaces”—and they ate with them and drank with them. So God struck the hearts of some of them against others, and He cursed them upon the tongue of David and Jesus son of Mary. That was because they disobeyed and were transgressing. The Messenger of God ﷺ was reclining, and he sat up and said: “No, by the One in whose hand is my soul, not until you bend them to the truth firmly.”

machine translationMuʾammal narrates it from al-Thawrī, from ʿAlī b. Badhīmah, from Abū ʿUbaydah, from Masrūq, from ʿAbdullāh, and he erred in mentioning Masrūq. Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī, ʿAlī b. Qādim and ʿAbbād b. Mūsā contradicted him, and narrated it from al-Thawrī, from ʿAlī b. Badhīmah, from Abū ʿUbaydah, from ʿAbdullāh. Others narrate it as a mursal report from al-Thawrī and do not mention Ibn Masʿūd in it, and the mursal (mursal) is more correct than the connected (muttaṣil) one.
