✧ The delegation of 'Abd al-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and among them was al-Ashajj, the brother of Banu 'Asar. They said: 'O Prophet of Allah, we are a clan from Rabi'ah, and between us and you are the disbelievers of Mudar, and we can only reach you during the sacred month. So command us with a matter which, if we act upon it, we will enter Paradise, and we will call to it those behind us.' He commanded them to do four things and forbade them from four things: he commanded them to worship Allah and not associate anything with Him, to fast Ramadan, to perform Hajj to the House, and to give the fifth of the spoils of war. And he forbade them from four things: from drinking from ḥantam jars, from gourds, from hollowed stumps, and from pitch-coated vessels. They said: 'Then in what should we drink, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Use leather water-skins whose mouths are tied.'
