✧ I heard him addressing the people, and once he said when he was appointed as caliph: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood last year in this place of mine.' Then Abu Bakr wept and said: 'I ask Allah for pardon and well-being, for people have not been given anything better after certainty than well-being. You must adhere to truthfulness, for it is in Paradise. Beware of lying, for it is with wickedness, and both are in the Fire. [And he said: Do not] sever ties, do not hate one another, do not envy one another, do not turn your backs on one another, but be brothers as Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has commanded you.'
