✧ He sought permission for Ibn Abbas to enter upon A'ishah while she was dying. With her was her nephew Abdullah b. Abd al-Rahman, who said: 'This is Ibn Abbas asking permission to enter upon you, and he is one of your best sons.' She said: 'Leave me from Ibn Abbas and his commendation.' Abdullah b. Abd al-Rahman said to her: 'He is a reciter of the Book of Allah, a jurist in the religion of Allah, so give him permission to greet you and bid you farewell.' She said: 'Permit him if you wish.' He said: 'So he gave him permission, and Ibn Abbas entered, then greeted and sat down and said: 'Rejoice, O Mother of the Believers, for by Allah, there is nothing between you and the departure of all harm and fatigue—or he said: pain—and meeting the loved ones, Muhammad and his party—or he said: his companions—except that your soul parts from your body.' She said: 'And anything else?' Ibn Abbas said: 'You were the most beloved of the wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to him, and he did not love except what is good. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent down your exoneration from above seven heavens. There is no mosque on earth but it is recited in it by night and by day. Your necklace fell at al-Abwa', and the Prophet ﷺ stayed at the camp with the people in search of it—or he said: in seeking it—until the people awoke without water. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent down [the verse]: "Perform tayammum with clean earth," as a concession for all people because of you. By Allah, you are blessed.' She said: 'Leave me, O Ibn Abbas, from this. For by Allah, I wish I had been a thing forgotten, utterly forgotten.'
