✧ Umar wrote to Abu Ubayda b. al-Jarrah: 'Teach your boys to swim, and your fighters to shoot.' They used to frequent the targets, and a stray arrow came to a boy and killed him. No lineage was found for him, and he was in the care of a maternal uncle. Abu Ubayda wrote to Umar about him: 'To whom should I pay his blood money?' Umar wrote to him: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: [Indeed] Allah and His Messenger are the guardian of one who has no guardian, and the maternal uncle is the heir of one who has no heir.'
