حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ وَهَاشِمٌ قَالا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْبَخْتَرِيِّ قَالَ

أَهْلَلْنَا هِلَالَ رَمَضَانَ وَنَحْنُ بِذَاتِ عِرْقٍ، قَالَ: فَأَرْسَلْنَا رَجُلًا إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ يَسْأَلُهُ - قَالَ هَاشِمٌ: فَسَأَلَهُ - فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ مَدَّ رُؤْيَتَهُ - قَالَ هَاشِمٌ: لِرُؤْيَتِهِ - فَإِنْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَأَكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ

Translation

✧ We sighted the crescent of Ramadan while we were at Dhat Irq. He said: So we sent a man to Ibn Abbas to ask him – Hashim said: So he asked him – and Ibn Abbas said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah has extended its sighting' – Hashim said: 'for its sighting' – 'so if it is obscured from you, then complete the count.'
