✧ I heard Hisham b. Hakim reciting Surat al-Furqan in prayer differently from how I recite it, and the Messenger of God ﷺ had taught it to me. So I took hold of his garment and brought him to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of God, I heard him reciting Surat al-Furqan differently from how you taught me.' He said, 'Recite.' So he recited the recitation I had heard from him, and he said, 'Thus it was revealed.' Then he said to me, 'Recite.' So I recited, and he said, 'Thus it was revealed. This Quran was revealed in seven modes, so recite whichever of it is easy.'
