حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ مُرَقَّعٍ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَرَقَ بُرْدَهُ، فَرَفَعَهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَأَمَرَ بِقَطْعِهِ. فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَدْ تَجَاوَزْتُ عَنْهُ. قَالَ: فَلَوْلَا كَانَ هَذَا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي بِهِ يَا أَبَا وَهْبٍ! فَقَطَعَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ.

✧ A man stole his cloak, so he brought him to the Prophet ﷺ, and he ordered that his hand be cut off. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have pardoned him." He said: "If only this had been before you brought him to me, O Abu Wahb!" Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cut off his hand.
