✧ The first time the Messenger of God ﷺ fell ill was in the house of Maymūna. His illness intensified until he lost consciousness. His wives consulted one another about giving him medicine orally, and they gave it to him. When he regained consciousness, he said: What is this? We said: This is the act of women who have come from here—and he pointed toward the land of Abyssinia—and Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays was among them. They said: We suspected you had pleurisy, O Messenger of God. He said: That is a disease God, Mighty and Majestic, would not afflict me with. No one in this house shall remain without being given the medicine orally, except the uncle of the Messenger of God—meaning al-ʿAbbās. He said: Maymūna was given it orally that day, even though she was fasting, because of the Messenger of God's ﷺ command.
