machine translationIt seems more likely to me, and God knows best, that this was a woman other than Asmāʾ, who was a relative of Jaʿfar by kinship and was not his wife, because the Prophet ﷺ said: "A woman is not to mourn for anyone for more than three days, except for a husband."
in مسند أحمد, p. 28060 - Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī
machine translationIt is not established that ʿAbdullāh b. Shaddād heard from Asmāʾ.
in مسند أحمد, p. 28060 - Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal
machine translationHe deemed it authentic (ṣaḥḥaḥahu), but he said that it contradicts the authentic hadiths. Ibn Ḥajar said: this is a move by Aḥmad to the view that he regards it as flawed by irregularity (shudhūdh).
machine translationThis hadith is irregular (shādhdh), contradicting the authentic hadiths, and they have unanimously agreed on the opposite of it.

machine translationAl-Ḥakam b. ʿUtaybah narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Muḥammad b. Ṭalḥah narrated it from al-Ḥakam, from ʿAbdullāh b. Shaddād, from Asmāʾ, while Muʿādh b. Muʿādh and Ghundar transmitted it as a mursal report from Shuʿbah. Al-Ḥasan b. ʿUmārah narrated it from al-Ḥakam, and al-Ḥasan b. Saʿd from ʿAbdullāh b. Shaddād, from Asmāʾ. Al-Ḥajjāj b. Arṭāh also narrated it, and there is disagreement about him: Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar narrated it from Ḥajjāj, from al-Ḥasan b. Saʿd, from ʿAbdullāh b. Shaddād, from Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad said that from Ḥammād. Asad b. ʿAmr al-Bajalī transmitted it as mursal from Ḥajjāj, from al-Ḥasan b. Saʿd, from ʿAbdullāh b. Shaddād, not taking it beyond him. The mursal version is more correct (aṣaḥḥ).
