حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، انْكِحْ أُخْتِي ابْنَةَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، فَزَعَمَتْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَهَا: أَوَتُحِبِّينَ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ. يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، لَسْتُ لَكَ بِمُخْلِيَةٍ، وَأَحَبُّ مَنْ شَرِكَنِي فِي خَيْرٍ أُخْتِي، قَالَتْ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَا يَحِلُّ لِي. فَقُلْتُ: فَوَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا لَنَتَحَدَّثُ أَنَّكَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَنْكِحَ دُرَّةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: ابْنَةَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ؟ قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَايْمُ اللهِ، إِنَّهَا لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ رَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي مَا حَلَّتْ لِي إِنَّهَا ابْنَةُ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ. أَرْضَعَتْنِي وَأَبَا سَلَمَةَ ثُوَيْبَةُ؛ فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ بَنَاتِكُنَّ وَلَا أَخَوَاتِكُنَّ.

✧ that she said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, “O Messenger of Allah, marry my sister, the daughter of Abu Sufyan.” She asserted that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, “Would you like that?” She said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah. I am not one to keep you to myself, and the one I would love most to share good with me is my sister.” She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “That is not lawful for me.” I said, “By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we are talking about how you intend to marry Durra bt. Abi Salama.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The daughter of Umm Salama?” She said, “Yes.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “By Allah, even if she were not my stepdaughter in my care, she would not be lawful for me. She is the daughter of my brother through suckling; Thuwayba suckled me and Abu Salama. So do not offer me your daughters or your sisters.”
