✧ I was with Abu ‘Amr b. Hafs b. al-Mughirah, and he had divorced me twice. Then he traveled with ‘Ali b. Abi Talib to Yemen when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him there, and he sent me my third divorce. His agent in Madinah was ‘Ayyash b. Abi Rabi‘ah b. al-Mughirah. She said: I said to him: “My maintenance and my housing.” He said: “You have no maintenance or housing from us, unless we voluntarily give you something from ourselves as a kindness.” She said: I said: “If I have no right, then I have no need of it.” She said: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him my story and what ‘Ayyash said to me. He said: “He has spoken the truth. You have no maintenance or housing from them, and he has no right to take you back. You must observe the waiting period. Move to Umm Sharik, your cousin, and stay with her until you are free.” She said: Then he said: “No. That is a woman whom her brothers from the Muslims visit. Rather, move to your cousin Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind. Stay with him. When you are free, do not let me miss you.” She said: By Allah, I think the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at that time intended me only for himself. She said: When my waiting period ended, he proposed to me on behalf of Usamah b. Zayd and married me to him.
