✧ I set out to Kufa to buy mules. He said: I came to the market and it had not yet started. He said: I said to a companion of mine: "Let us enter the mosque; at that time its location was among the date-sellers." There was a man from Qays called Ibn al-Muntafiq, and he was saying: "The Messenger of God ﷺ was described to me and adorned (with qualities), so I sought him in Makkah and was told: 'He is in Mina.' I sought him in Mina and was told: 'He is in Arafat.' I reached him and pressed forward through the crowd, but it was said to me: 'Get away from the path of the Messenger of God ﷺ.' He said: 'Leave the man alone; what need does he have?' He said: So I pressed forward until I reached him. He said: I took hold of the halter of the Messenger of God's ﷺ mount — or he said: its rein; this is how Muhammad narrated — until the necks of our two mounts interlocked. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ did not rebuke me — or he said: did not reproach me; this is how Muhammad narrated. He said: I said: "Two things I ask you about: what will save me from the Fire? And what will admit me to Paradise?" He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ looked at the sky, then lowered his head, then turned his face toward me and said: "If you have been brief in asking, you have indeed magnified and lengthened. So understand from me: worship God and do not associate anything with Him, establish the prescribed prayer, give the obligatory zakat, and fast Ramadan. Whatever you love for people to do to you, do it to them. Whatever you dislike for people to bring upon you, leave people alone from it." Then he said: "Release the mount's halter."
