✧ I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ among a group of women from Banū Ghifār. We said to him: O Messenger of God, we want to go out with you on this campaign of yours—he was heading to Khaybar—to treat the wounded and assist the Muslims as much as we can. He said: By the blessing of God. She said: We went out with him. I was a young girl, and the Messenger of God ﷺ seated me behind him on the rear pack of his saddle. She said: By God, the Messenger of God ﷺ stopped at dawn and made his camel kneel. I dismounted from the rear pack of his saddle, and there was blood from me—it was my first menstrual period. She said: I shrank toward the camel out of shyness. When the Messenger of God ﷺ saw what was wrong with me and saw the blood, he said: What is the matter with you? Perhaps you have menstruated? She said: I said: Yes. He said: Attend to yourself. Take a vessel of water, put salt in it, then wash the blood that got on the saddle pad, then return to your riding place. She said: When the Messenger of God ﷺ conquered Khaybar, he allotted us a share of the spoils. He took this necklace that you see on my neck, gave it to me, and placed it around my neck with his own hand. By God, it will never leave me. The narrator said: It remained on her neck until she died; then she bequeathed that she be buried with it. She did not purify herself after menstruation without putting salt in her purifying water, and she bequeathed that it be put in her washing water when she died.
