✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions came to Makkah, and the fever of Yathrib had weakened them. The polytheists said: “A people have come to you whom the fever of Yathrib has weakened, and they have suffered badly from it.” The polytheists sat on the side facing the Ḥijr, and Allah informed His Prophet of what they said. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded them to do ramal in the first three circuits so that the polytheists might see their strength. He said: So they did ramal in three circuits, and he commanded them to walk between the two corners where the polytheists could not see them. Ibn ʿAbbās said: Nothing prevented the Prophet ﷺ from commanding them to do ramal in all the circuits except concern for their wellbeing. Then the polytheists said: “These are the ones you claimed the fever had weakened; they are stronger than such and such.”
