✧ ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf entered upon Umm Salamah and said, “O Mother of the Believers, I fear that I may be ruined; I am among the wealthiest of Quraysh. I sold a piece of land of mine for forty thousand dinars.” She said, “Spend, my son, for I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: ‘Among my Companions are those who will not see me after I depart from them.’” So I went to ʿUmar and informed him, and he went to her and said, “I adjure you by God, am I one of them?” She said, “By God, no, and I will never absolve anyone after you.”
