حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أُمِّهَا

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً تُوُفِّيَ زَوْجُهَا فَاشْتَكَتْ عَيْنَهَا. فَذَكَرُوهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَذَكَرُوا الْكُحْلَ قَالُوا: تَخَافُ عَلَى عَيْنِهَا ! قَالَ: قَدْ كَانَتْ إِحْدَاكُنَّ تَمْكُثُ فِي بَيْتِهَا فِي شَرِّ أَحْلَاسِهَا - أَوْ فِي أَحْلَاسِهَا - فِي شَرِّ بَيْتِهَا حَوْلًا، فَإِذَا مَرَّ بِهَا كَلْبٌ رَمَتْ بِبَعْرَةٍ. أَفَلَا أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا. ؟

✧ A woman's husband died and she complained about her eyes. They mentioned her to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned kohl. They said: 'She fears for her eyes!' He said: 'One of you used to remain in her house in the worst of her saddle cloths - or in her saddle cloths - in the worst of her house for a full year, and if a dog passed by she would throw a piece of dung at it. Is it not just four months and ten days?'
