✧ The people used to pray in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during Ramadan at night in separate groups. A man who had memorized some of the Quran would have with him a group of five or six, or less than that or more, praying with his prayer. She said: One night during that time, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered me to set up a mat for him at the door of my room, so I did. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to it after he had prayed the later Isha prayer. She said: Those in the mosque gathered around him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led them in prayer for a long part of the night. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed and entered, leaving the mat as it was. When morning came, the people talked about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with those who had been with him in the mosque that night. She said: In the evening, the mosque was crowded with people, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the later Isha prayer with them. Then he entered his house, and the people remained. She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: “What is the matter with the people, O Aishah?” She said: I said to him: “O Messenger of Allah, the people heard about your prayer last night with those in the mosque, so they gathered for that, hoping that you would pray with them.” She said: He said: “Fold up your mat for us, O Aishah.” She said: I did so, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spent the night not heedless. The people remained in their places until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to them at dawn. She said: He said: “O people, by Allah, praise be to Allah, I did not spend this night of mine heedless, and your presence was not hidden from me, but I feared that it would be made obligatory upon you. So do the deeds you are able to do, for Allah does not grow weary until you grow weary.” She said: Aishah used to say: “The most beloved deeds to Allah are the most consistent, even if few.”
