✧ 'A'ishah was asked about the night prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: 'He would pray 'Isha', then he would pray two rak'ahs after it, then he would sleep. When he woke up, and his ablution water and tooth-stick were covered, he would use the tooth-stick, then perform ablution, then stand and pray eight rak'ahs. In them he would recite the Opening of the Book and whatever he wished from the Qur'an.' One time she said: 'Whatever Allah willed from the Qur'an. He would not sit in any of them except in the eighth, for he would sit in it and recite the tashahhud, then he would stand without saying the salam and pray one rak'ah. Then he would sit and recite the tashahhud and make supplication, then he would say one salam: "Peace be upon you," raising his voice with it until he woke us. Then he would say the takbir while sitting and recite, then he would bow and prostrate while sitting, and he would pray two rak'ahs sitting. So that is eleven rak'ahs.' When he gained weight and became heavy, he made the nine into seven, not sitting except as he sat in the first, and he would pray the two rak'ahs sitting. That was the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until Allah took him.
