✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became seriously ill, Bilal came to inform him of the prayer time. He said: 'Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.' She said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr is a tender-hearted man, and whenever he stands in your place he cannot make the people hear him, so if only you would order 'Umar.' He said: 'Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.' She said: I said to Hafsah: 'Say it to him.' Hafsah said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr is a tender-hearted man, and whenever he stands in your place he cannot make the people hear him, so if only you would order 'Umar.' He said: 'Indeed you are like the women around Yusuf. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.' She said: So they ordered Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer. When he entered the prayer, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ felt some relief, so he stood up, being supported between two men, with his feet dragging on the ground, until he entered the mosque. When Abu Bakr heard his movement, he moved to step back, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gestured to him: 'Stay where you are.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and sat to the left of Abu Bakr, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed seated while Abu Bakr stood, Abu Bakr following the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the people following the prayer of Abu Bakr.
