✧ He said: Shall I not tell you about myself and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? I said: Yes. He said: She said: When it was my night when the Prophet ﷺ was with me, he turned and put down his cloak, took off his sandals and placed them at his feet, spread the edge of his lower garment over his bed, and lay down. He did not remain except as long as he thought I had fallen asleep. Then he took his cloak slowly, put on his sandals slowly, opened the door and went out, then closed it slowly. So I put my shift over my head, veiled myself, wrapped my lower garment around me, and then I set off following his trail until he came to al-Baqīʿ. He stood and prolonged standing, then raised his hands three times, then turned away, so I turned away. He hastened, so I hastened; he jogged, so I jogged; he ran, so I ran and I overtook him and entered. As soon as I lay down, he entered and said: What is the matter with you, O ʿĀʾish, panting and out of breath? She said: I said: Nothing, O Messenger of Allah. He said: You will either tell me or the Subtle, the Aware will inform me. She said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be your ransom, and I told him. He said: So you are the dark figure I saw in front of me? I said: Yes. Then he struck me on my chest with a blow that hurt me, and said: Did you think that Allah and His Messenger would be unjust to you? She said: Whatever people conceal, Allah knows it. He said: Yes. Indeed Jibrīl ﷺ came to me when you saw me, and he called me, and he hid it from you. I answered him and hid it from you. He would not have entered upon you while you had taken off your clothes, and I thought you had fallen asleep, so I disliked waking you and feared you would feel lonely. He said: Your Lord, Mighty and Majestic, commands you to go to the people of al-Baqīʿ and seek forgiveness for them. She said: How should I say, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Say: Peace be upon the inhabitants of the dwellings, from the believers and Muslims, and may Allah have mercy on those of us who have gone before and those who remain behind, and indeed we, if Allah wills, will join you.
