حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ
أَنَّهَا أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ بَرِيرَةَ لِلْعِتْقِ، فَأَرَادَ مَوَالِيهَا أَنْ يَشْتَرِطُوا وَلَاءَهَا، فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: اشْتَرِيهَا، فَإِنَّمَا الْوَلَاءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ. وَخَيَّرَهَا مِنْ زَوْجِهَا، وَكَانَ زَوْجُهَا حُرًّا، وَأُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِلَحْمٍ فَقِيلَ: هَذَا مَا تُصُدِّقَ بِهِ عَلَى بَرِيرَةَ، فَقَالَ: هُوَ لَهَا صَدَقَةٌ، وَلَنَا هَدِيَّةٌ.

✧ She wanted to buy Barīrah in order to free her, and her masters wanted to stipulate the right of wala, so she mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, “Buy her, for the wala belongs to the one who frees.” And he gave her the choice regarding her husband, and her husband was a free man. Then some meat was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and it was said, “This is what was given in charity to Barīrah.” He said, “It is charity for her and a gift for us.”
