  • al-Tirmidhi

machine translationThe hadith of al-Aswad from ʿĀʾishah, that the Prophet ﷺ used to perform ablution before sleeping, meaning when in a state of major impurity (junub), is more sound (aṣaḥḥ) than the hadith of Abū Isḥāq from al-Aswad from ʿĀʾishah: "The Prophet ﷺ would sleep while in a state of major impurity and would not touch water." They consider this to be a mistake (ghalaṭ) on the part of Abū Isḥāq.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720
  • Zarqānī

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720

machine translationThis hadith is anomalous (shādhdh).

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationIt seems that the report is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ).

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720
  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationThe hadith of Abū Isḥāq is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) in terms of its transmission.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720
  • al-Tirmidhi

machine translationThis is more authentic than the hadith of Abū Isḥāq: "The Prophet used to sleep in a state of janābah without touching water."

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationIt seems that both reports could be authentic (ṣaḥīḥ): the report of al-Aswad mentioning ablution before sleeping while in a state of janābah, and the hadith of Abū Isḥāq saying that he did not touch water, because ʿĀʾishah said: Sometimes he would bring the bathing forward and sometimes he would delay it.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720
  • al-Tirmidhi

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720
  • al-Tirmidhi

machine translationThey consider this to be a mistake on the part of Abū Isḥāq, meaning in his saying "he did not touch water."

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720
  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationThe memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) criticized this wording, so the weakness (ḍaʿf) of the hadith is evident from what we have mentioned, meaning "he did not touch water."

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720
  • Taḥāwī

machine translationThey said: This hadith is mistaken, because it is an abridged hadith that Abū Isḥāq abridged from a long hadith, and he erred in abridging it.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720

machine translationIt is an erroneous hadith (wahm), meaning the hadith of Abū Isḥāq; and in one report from him: it is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ).

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25720
