✧ A young woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, my father married me to his brother's son to raise his lowliness through me." So he placed the matter in her hands. She said: "I have approved what my father did, but I wanted women to know that fathers have no authority in the matter."

machine translationKahmas b. al-Ḥasan narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Jaʿfar b. Sulaymān al-Ḍubaʿī, ʿAlī b. Gharāb and Wakīʿ narrated it from Kahmas, from Ibn Buraydah, from ʿĀʾishah. But ʿAbdullāh b. Idrīs, Yazīd b. Hārūn and ʿAwn b. Kahmas contradicted them; they narrated it from Kahmas, from Ibn Buraydah, that a young woman came to ʿĀʾishah and said: "My father married me and did not consult me," then the Prophet ﷺ came and she mentioned that to him. So in the narration of these three it is mursal (with the Companion omitted), and that is closer to the correct view.

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationThis is a mursal report of Ibn Buraydah; he did not hear from ʿĀʾishah.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 25627
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationAll of these are the mursal reports (marāsīl) of Ibn Buraydah; he did not hear anything from ʿĀʾishah.
