✧ While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting with his companions, he laughed and said, 'Will you not ask me why I am laughing?' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, why are you laughing?' He said, 'I marvel at the affair of the believer. All of his affair is good. If something he likes befalls him, he praises Allah, and that is good for him. If something he dislikes befalls him and he is patient, that is good for him. Not everyone's affair is entirely good for him except the believer.' ʿAffān also narrated it to us: Sulaymān narrated to us: Thābit narrated to us this exact wording. I think he erred—this is Ḥammād's wording. He narrated it to us saying: Sulaymān narrated to us: Thābit narrated to us something similar to the wording of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from Sulaymān, and that was from his book, read to us.
