حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ
لِعُمَرَ أَمَّا قَوْلُكَ اكْتَنَيْتَ وَلَيْسَ لَكَ وَلَدٌ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَنَّانِي أَبَا يَحْيَى فَأَمَّا قَوْلُكَ فِيكَ سَرَفٌ فِي الطَّعَامِ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ أَطْعَمَ الطَّعَامَ أَوِ الَّذِينَ يُطْعِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ
Translation

✧ To ʿUmar: As for your saying, 'You have taken a kunyah though you have no son,' indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me the kunyah Abū Yaḥyā. As for your saying, 'In you there is extravagance in food,' indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The best of you is the one who feeds others,' or 'those who feed others.'
