Translation

✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ prayed, he would whisper something I could not understand, and he did not tell us about it. He said: Did you notice me? We said: Yes. He said: I was remembering a prophet among the prophets who was given armies from his people. He said: Who can match these, or who can stand against these?—or other words. It was revealed to him: Choose for your people one of three things: either we set upon them an enemy from other than them, or famine, or death. He consulted his people about it. They said: You are the prophet of God; we entrust that to you. Choose for us. He stood for prayer, and when they were afraid, they resorted to prayer. He prayed as long as God willed. Then he said: O Lord, as for an enemy from other than them, no; or famine, no; but death. So death was set upon them, and seventy thousand of them died. So my whispering that you see is that I say: O God, with You I fight, and with You I attack, and there is no power and no strength except with God.
