✧ Al-Arqam al-Zuhri, or Ibn Abi al-Arqam, passed by me after he had been appointed over the sadaqat. He said: He asked me to accompany him. He said: So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about that. He said: O Abu Rafi', indeed sadaqah is unlawful for Muhammad and for the family of Muhammad. Indeed the mawla of a people is one of them.

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationAl-Ḥakam narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Shuʿbah narrated it from al-Ḥakam, from Ibn Abī Rāfiʿ, from his father. ʿAmr b. Marzūq said, from Shuʿbah, the same; and likewise Usāmah said, from Shuʿbah. But al-Ḥajjāj b. Arṭāh said, from al-Ḥakam, that Abū Rāfiʿ asked the Prophet ﷺ for something of the charity (ṣadaqah), and he said: "It is not lawful for the Prophet ﷺ, nor for any of his family, nor for their freed slaves." So it would be mursal (with the Companion omitted from the chain).
