✧ I stayed as a guest of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ among the poor whom he hosted. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out at night to check on his guests and saw me lying flat on my stomach. He nudged me with his foot and said, "Do not lie in this posture, for it is a posture that Allah [Mighty and Majestic] hates."

  • al-Dhahabi

machine translationIn his hadith and his name there is inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) – meaning Ṭikhfah.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 24047
  • Mizzī

machine translationThis hadith was narrated by Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr, and there is a long and wide-ranging disagreement about it from him – and he mentioned the disagreement. It is an objectionable (munkar) statement; we do not know of anyone who followed him in it, and there is other disagreement in it besides.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 24047
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationMuḥammad b. ʿAmr narrates it from Abū Salamah from Abū Hurayrah. That was said by Ḥammād b. Salamah, ʿĪsā b. Yūnus, al-Naḍr b. Shumayl, Abū Muʿāwiyah, ʿAbdah b. Sulaymān, al-Faḍl b. Mūsā al-Sīnānī, Shujāʿ b. al-Walīd and Muḥammad b. Bishr. Muʿtamir narrated it from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr from Abū Salamah as a mursal report from the Prophet ﷺ. Others narrate it from Abū Salamah from Ibn Ṭikhfah al-Ghifārī from his father, and that is the correct version. This hadith was also narrated from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. Ḥalḥalah from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ from Abū Hurayrah, and it was said that it is from him from ʿAṭāʾ from Abū Hurayrah, but it is not authentic from Abū Hurayrah. Rather, Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ narrated it from Ibn Ṭikhfah as well.
