✧ The Prophet ﷺ appointed a man from the Azd, called Ibn al-Lutbiyyah, over the collection of sadaqah (zakat). He came and said: 'This is for you, and this was given to me as a gift.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood on the minbar and said: 'What is the matter with an agent whom we send, and he comes and says: "This is for you, and this was given to me as a gift"? Why did he not sit in the house of his father and mother and see whether he would be given a gift or not? By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, none of you will bring anything from it [the collected sadaqah] except that he will come on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on his neck: if it is a camel, it will be bellowing; or a cow, it will be lowing; or a sheep, it will be bleating.' Then he raised his hands until we saw the whiteness of his armpits, then said: 'O Allah, have I conveyed?' three times.
