حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ أَنَّهُ
كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي خِلَافَةِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ: لَا يَمُوتُ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ حَتَّى يُسْتَخْلَفَ. قُلْنَا: مِنْ أَيْنَ تَعْلَمُ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: رَأَيْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ فِي الْمَنَامِ كَأَنَّ ثَلَاثَةً مِنْ أَصْحَابِي وُزِنُوا، فَوُزِنَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَوَزَنَ، ثُمَّ وُزِنَ عُمَرُ فَوَزَنَ، ثُمَّ وُزِنَ عُثْمَانُ فَنَقَصَ صَاحِبُنَا، وَهُوَ صَالِحٌ
Translation

✧ During the caliphate of Umar b. al-Khattab, he used to say: 'Uthman b. Affan will not die until he is appointed as caliph.' We said: 'How do you know that?' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: Last night I saw in a dream as if three of my companions were weighed. Abu Bakr was weighed and weighed; then Umar was weighed and weighed; then Uthman was weighed and our companion was deficient, yet he is righteous.'
