✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ, and he stopped with us while we were with him, nearly a thousand riders. He prayed two rakʿahs, then turned his face toward us with tears flowing from his eyes. ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb stood up to him and ransomed him with father and mother, saying: O Messenger of God, what is the matter with you? He said: I asked my Lord [Mighty and Majestic] for permission to seek forgiveness for my mother, but He did not permit me, so my eyes shed tears out of mercy for her from the Fire. And I had forbidden you three things: visiting graves, but visit them, for visiting them will remind you of good; and I forbade you the meat of sacrificial animals after three days, but eat and keep what you wish; and I forbade you drinks in certain vessels, so drink in whatever vessel you wish, but do not drink any intoxicant.
