حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ بَهْرَامَ الْفَزَارِيُّ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ غَنْمٍ أَنَّ أَبَا مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيَّ جَمَعَ قَوْمَهُ فَقَالَ
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، اسْمَعُوا وَاعْقِلُوا، وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ لِلهِ [عَزَّ وَجَلَّ] عِبَادًا لَيْسُوا بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلَا شُهَدَاءَ يَغْبِطُهُمُ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ عَلَى مَجَالِسِهِمْ، وَقُرْبِهِمْ مِنَ اللهِ، فَجَثَى رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ مِنْ قَاصِيَةِ النَّاسِ، وَأَلْوَى بِيَدِهِ إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، نَاسٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ لَيْسُوا بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلَا شُهَدَاءَ يَغْبِطُهُمُ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ عَلَى مَجَالِسِهِمْ وَقُرْبِهِمْ مِنَ اللهِ، انْعَتْهُمْ لَنَا حَلِّهِمْ لَنَا - يَعْنِي: صِفْهُمْ لَنَا، شَكِّلْهُمْ لَنَا - فَسُرَّ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لِسُؤَالِ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: هُمْ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَفْنَاءِ النَّاسِ، وَنَوَازِعِ الْقَبَائِلِ لَمْ تَصِلْ بَيْنَهُمْ أَرْحَامٌ مُتَقَارِبَةٌ تَحَابُّوا فِي اللهِ، وَتَصَافَوْا، يَضَعُ اللهُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مَنَابِرَ مِنْ نُورٍ، فَيُجْلِسُهُمْ عَلَيْهَا، فَيَجْعَلُ وُجُوهَهُمْ نُورًا، وَثِيَابَهُمْ نُورًا، يَفْزَعُ النَّاسُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَا يَفْزَعُونَ، وَهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ اللهِ الَّذِينَ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ. كذا في طبعة جمعية المكنز الإسلامي، وفي طبعة مؤسسة الرسالة زيادة: التي. كذا في طبعة جمعية المكنز الإسلامي، وما بين المعقوفين غير موجود في طبعة مؤسسة الرسالة. كذا في طبعة جمعية المكنز الإسلامي، وفي طبعة مؤسسة الرسالة: النبيون.

✧ O people, listen and understand, and know that Allah [Mighty and Majestic] has servants who are neither prophets nor martyrs, whom the prophets and martyrs will envy for their assemblies and their nearness to Allah. A man from the Bedouins sat up from the farthest of the people, gestured with his hand toward the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, and said: O Prophet of Allah, people among the people who are neither prophets nor martyrs, whom the prophets and martyrs envy for their assemblies and their nearness to Allah — describe them to us; clarify them for us — meaning: describe them to us; portray them for us. The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ brightened at the Bedouin’s question, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: They are people from among the masses of the people and the distant branches of tribes, no close kinship ties connecting them; they love one another for Allah and are sincere to one another. On the Day of Resurrection Allah will place for them pulpits of light and seat them upon them, and He will make their faces light and their garments light. People will be terrified on the Day of Resurrection, but they will not be terrified. They are the friends of Allah upon whom there is no fear, nor do they grieve.
