حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ
كُنْتُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَنَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَسْأَلُوا عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ إِنْ تُبْدَ لَكُمْ تَسُؤْكُمْ} [المائدة 101] قَالَ فَنَحْنُ نَسْأَلُهُ إِذْ قَالَ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ عِبَادٌ لَيْسُوا بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلَا شُهَدَاءَ يَغْبِطُهُمُ النَّبِيُّونَ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ؛ لِمَقْعَدِهِمْ وَقُرْبِهِمْ مِنَ اللهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ

✧ I was with the Prophet ﷺ when it was revealed to him: {O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you} [Al-Ma'idah 101]. He said, so we were asking him when he said: "Indeed, God has servants who are not prophets or martyrs, whom the prophets and martyrs envy for their station and their nearness to God on the Day of Resurrection." Then he mentioned the hadith in full.
