قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ مَالِكٍ وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبْتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ فَقَامَتْ قِيَامًا طَوِيلًا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ زَوِّجْنِيهَا إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَلْ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ تُصْدِقُهَا إِيَّاهُ؟ فَقَالَ مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا إِزَارِي هَذَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنْ أَعْطَيْتَهَا إِزَارَكَ جَلَسْتَ لَا إِزَارَ لَكَ فَالْتَمِسْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ مَا أَجِدُ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ الْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فَالْتَمَسَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَاوَسُورَةُ كَذَا لِسُوَرٍ يُسَمِّيهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

✧ A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of God, I have given myself to you." She stood for a long time. A man stood up and said: "O Messenger of God, marry her to me if you have no need of her." The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Do you have anything to give her as a dowry?" He said: "I have nothing except this waist-wrapper of mine." The Prophet ﷺ said: "If you give her your waist-wrapper, you will sit with no waist-wrapper. Look for something." He said: "I find nothing." He said: "Look, even if it is an iron ring." He looked and found nothing. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: "Do you have anything of the Qur’an with you?" He said: "Yes, Surah such-and-such and Surah such-and-such," naming certain surahs. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: "I have married her to you for what you have of the Qur’an."
