حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ رَاشِدِ بْنِ دَاوُدَ الصَّنْعَانِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ رَوْحِ بْنِ زِنْبَاعٍ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ
فَقَدَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لَيْلَةً أَصْحَابُهُ، وَكَانُوا إِذَا نَزَلُوا أَنْزَلُوهُ وَسَطَهُمْ، فَفَزِعُوا، وَظَنُّوا أَنَّ اللهَ [تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى] اخْتَارَ لَهُ أَصْحَابًا غَيْرَهُمْ، فَإِذَا هُمْ بِخَيَالِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَكَبَّرُوا حِينَ رَأَوْهُ، وَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَشْفَقْنَا أَنْ يَكُونَ اللهُ [تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى] اخْتَارَ لَكَ أَصْحَابًا غَيْرَنَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَا، بَلْ أَنْتُمْ أَصْحَابِي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ، إِنَّ اللهَ [تَعَالَى] أَيْقَظَنِي، فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ نَبِيًّا، وَلَا رَسُولًا إِلَّا وَقَدْ سَأَلَنِي مَسْأَلَةً أَعْطَيْتُهَا إِيَّاهُ، فَسَلْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ تُعْطَ، فَقُلْتُ: مَسْأَلَتِي شَفَاعَةٌ لِأُمَّتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَمَا الشَّفَاعَةُ؟ قَالَ: أَقُولُ: يَا رَبِّ، شَفَاعَتِي الَّتِي اخْتَبَأْتُ عِنْدَكَ، فَيَقُولُ الرَّبُّ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى: نَعَمْ، فَيُخْرِجُ رَبِّي [تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى] بَقِيَّةَ أُمَّتِي مِنَ النَّارِ، فَيَنْبُذُهُمْ فِي الْجَنَّةِ

✧ The Prophet ﷺ was missed by his companions one night, and when they camped they used to place him in their midst. So they became alarmed and thought that Allah [blessed and exalted is He] had chosen for him companions other than them. Then they saw the figure of the Prophet ﷺ, and they said the takbīr when they saw him, and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we feared that Allah [blessed and exalted is He] had chosen for you companions other than us.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No, rather you are my companions in this world and the Hereafter. Allah [exalted is He] woke me and said: O Muhammad, I have not sent any prophet or messenger except that he asked Me for something which I granted him. So ask, O Muhammad, and you will be given.' I said: 'My request is intercession for my ummah on the Day of Resurrection.' Abu Bakr said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is intercession?' He said: 'I will say: O Lord, my intercession which I kept in reserve with You. The Lord, blessed and exalted is He, will say: Yes. Then my Lord [blessed and exalted is He] will bring out the remainder of my ummah from the Fire and cast them into Paradise.'
