✧ A lodging brought together Ubada b. al-Samit and Muawiya, either in a church or in a synagogue. Ubada stood and said: The Messenger of God ﷺ forbade us gold for gold, silver for silver, dates for dates, wheat for wheat, and barley for barley. One of the two said: and salt for salt, but the other did not say it. One of the two said: Whoever adds or takes more has committed usury, but the other did not say it. And he commanded us to sell gold for silver, silver for gold, wheat for barley, and barley for wheat, hand to hand, however we wished.

machine translationIt is narrated by al-Rabīʿ b. Ṣubayḥ, and there is disagreement about him. Al-Anṣārī, Ḥajjāj b. Minhāl and others narrated it from al-Rabīʿ, from Ibn Sīrīn, from Anas and ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit. Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh said: from al-Rabīʿ, from al-Ḥasan, from Anas and ʿUbādah. There is also disagreement about Ibn Sīrīn: Salamah b. ʿAlqamah narrated it from Ibn Sīrīn, from Muslim b. Yasār, from ʿUbādah; and ʿUqbah b. Khālid al-Shannī narrated it from Ibn Sīrīn, from Shuraḥbīl b. Ḥasanah, from ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit. The report of Salamah b. ʿAlqamah is closer to being correct.
