حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُغِيرَةُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ
عَلَّمْتُ نَاسًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الصُّفَّةِ الْكِتَابَةَ وَالْقُرْآنَ، فَأَهْدَى إِلَيَّ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ قَوْسًا، فَقُلْتُ: لَيْسَتْ لِي بِمَالٍ، وَأَرْمِي عَنْهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ [تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى]، فَسَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: إِنْ سَرَّكَ أَنْ تُطَوَّقَ بِهَا طَوْقًا مِنْ نَارٍ فَاقْبَلْهَا

✧ I taught some people from the people of the Ṣuffah writing and the Qurʾān. One of them gifted me a bow, so I said: It is not wealth for me, and I shoot with it in the path of Allah [the Blessed and Exalted]. I asked the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: If it pleases you to be encircled with a collar of fire by it, then accept it.
