✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting in the mosque, and they thought that revelation was descending upon him, so they kept away from him until Abu Dharr came, stepped in, and sat down beside him. The Prophet ﷺ turned to him and said: "O Abu Dharr, have you prayed today?" He said: "No." He said: "Get up and pray." When he had prayed four rak'ahs of al-ḍuḥā, he turned to him and said: "O Abu Dharr, seek refuge from the evil of the devils of the jinn and mankind." He said: "O Prophet of Allah, are there devils among mankind?" He said: "Yes. The devils of mankind and jinn inspire one another with adorned speech by way of deception." Then he said: "O Abu Dharr, shall I not teach you a word from the treasure of Paradise?" He said: "Yes, may Allah make me your ransom." He said: "Say: Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh (There is no might nor power except with Allah)." He said: "So I said: Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh." He said: "Then he fell silent, and I found his silence long." He said: "I said: O Prophet of Allah, we were people of ignorance and idol worship, and Allah sent you as a mercy to the worlds. What do you think about prayer—what is it?" He said: "A good act placed before you; whoever wishes may take little, and whoever wishes may take much." He said: "I said: O Prophet of Allah, what do you think about fasting—what is it?" He said: "A loan that is repaid in full." He said: "I said: O Prophet of Allah, what do you think about charity—what is it?" He said: "Multiplied many times over, and with Allah is more." He said: "I said: O Prophet of Allah, which charity is best?" He said: "A secret given to a poor person, and an effort from one of little means." He said: "I said: O Prophet of Allah, which verse revealed to you is greatest?" He said: "Allah—there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining—the Verse of the Throne (Āyat al-Kursī)." He said: "I said: O Prophet of Allah, which martyrs are best?" He said: "One whose blood is shed and whose horse is hamstrung." He said: "I said: O Prophet of Allah, which slaves are best to free?" He said: "The most expensive in price and the most precious to their owners." He said: "I said: O Prophet of Allah, which prophet was first?" He said: "Ādam ﷺ." He said: "I said: O Prophet of Allah, was Ādam a prophet?" He said: "Yes, a prophet who was spoken to. Allah created him with His hand, then breathed into him of His spirit, then said to him: O Ādam, face to face." He said: "I said: O Messenger of Allah, how many prophets were there in total?" He said: "One hundred twenty-four thousand, of whom the messengers were three hundred fifteen, a great multitude."
