✧ Are you in doubt, O Ibn al-Khattab? Those are a people whose good things were hastened for them in the life of this world. I said: 'Ask forgiveness for me, O Messenger of Allah.' He had sworn not to enter upon them for a month because of his intense displeasure with them, until Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, reproached him. So in the edition of Jamʿiyyat al-Maknaz al-Islami, and in the edition of Muʾassasat al-Risala there is an addition: ﷺ.
machine translationMarzūq b. Abī al-Hudhayl narrated it from al-Zuhrī and said: "from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUtbah b. Masʿūd, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from ʿUmar," but he erred in his lineage; he is in fact ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. Abī Thawr. This is how the memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) narrated it from al-Zuhrī. This hadith has many authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) routes from Ibn ʿAbbās, from ʿUmar.
