✧ A man whose mother or father — or both, Shu'ba said: he says that — ordered him to divorce his wife, so he imposed upon himself the freeing of one hundred slaves. He came to Abu al-Darda while he was praying the forenoon prayer, prolonging it, and he prayed what was between noon and afternoon. He asked him, and Abu al-Darda said to him: Fulfill your vow and honor your parents. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: The parent is the middle gate of Paradise, so safeguard the parent or leave it.
