✧ A man came to Umar and said: The hyena has eaten us—Mis'ar said: meaning the year of famine. Umar asked him: Who are you from? He kept asking about his lineage until he recognized him, that he was wealthy. Umar said: If a person had a valley or two valleys, he would seek a third. Ibn Abbas said: And nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust, then Allah relents to whoever repents. Umar said to Ibn Abbas: From whom did you hear this? He said: From Ubayy. He said: Then in the morning, come to me. He returned to Umm al-Fadl and mentioned that to her. She said: What do you have to do with speaking in Umar's presence? Ibn Abbas feared that Ubayy might have forgotten. His mother said: Ubayy is not likely to have forgotten. In the morning he went to Umar, who had his whip with him, and they set off to Ubayy. Ubayy came out to them, having performed ablution, and said: I had a discharge of prostatic fluid, so I washed my penis or my private part—Mis'ar was unsure. Umar said: Is that sufficient? He said: Yes. He said: Did you hear it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He said: Yes. He also asked him about what Ibn Abbas had said, and he confirmed it.
