✧ He argued with al-Hurr b. Qays b. Hisn al-Fazari about the companion of Moses ﷺ, whom he asked for a way to meet. Ibn Abbas said: He is Khidr. Then Ubayy b. Ka'b passed by them, and Ibn Abbas called him and said: My companion here and I have argued about the companion of Moses ﷺ, whom he asked for a way to meet. Have you heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention his story? He said: Yes, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: While Moses ﷺ was among a group of the Children of Israel, a man stood up to him and said: Do you know anyone more knowledgeable than you? He said: No. He said: So Allah (blessed and exalted is He) revealed to him: Our servant Khidr. Moses ﷺ asked for a way to meet him, and Allah (blessed and exalted is He) made the fish a sign for him. It was said to him: When you lose the fish, turn back, for you will meet him. Ibn Mus'ab said in his narration: He stopped at a place, and Moses ﷺ said to his servant: Bring us our meal; we have certainly met with fatigue from this journey of ours. At that moment he lost the fish, so they retraced their footsteps, following their tracks. Moses ﷺ began to follow the trace of the fish in the sea. He said: Then their story was as Allah (blessed and exalted is He) related in His Book.
