✧ Shall I not teach you a surah the like of which has not been sent down in the Torah, nor in the Zabur, nor in the Gospel, nor in the Qur'an? I said: Yes. He said: I hope that I will not leave through that door until you learn it. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up, and I stood up with him. He took me by the hand and began talking to me until he reached near the door. He said: Then I reminded him, and I said: O Messenger of Allah, the surah you told me about? He said: How do you recite when you stand to pray? He recited the Opening of the Book. He said: It is it, it is it, and it is the seven oft-repeated verses and the Great Qur'an which I was given afterwards.

machine translationʿAbdullāh said: I asked my father about al-ʿAlāʾ b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and Suhayl b. Abī Ṣāliḥ, and he put al-ʿAlāʾ ahead of Suhayl and said: I have not heard anyone mention al-ʿAlāʾ with anything bad. And Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: And Abū Ṣāliḥ is dearer to me than al-ʿAlāʾ. • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThere was disagreement about al-ʿAlāʾ in this hadith, as you see, in the chain and in the text. I think there was something in his memory, and God knows best. Ibn Abī Shaybah and Yūsuf b. Mūsā have transmitted it well, from Abū Usāmah, from ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd b. Jaʿfar.
