✧ I was a blacksmith, and al-ʿĀṣ b. Wāʾil owed me a right. I went to him to demand it, and he said: I will not give you until you disbelieve in Muḥammad. I said: No, by God, I will not disbelieve in Muḥammad ﷺ until you die and are resurrected. He said: Then he laughed and said: I will have wealth and children there, and I will give you your right. Then God Exalted revealed: 'Have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our verses and said, "I will surely be given wealth and children"? Has he looked into the unseen or taken a covenant with the Most Merciful?' the verse.
