حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ ابْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ
كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَشَارَ أَحَدُنَا إِلَى أَخِيهِ مِنْ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِنْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَا بَالُ أَحَدِكُمْ يَفْعَلُ هَذَا كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ خَيْلٍ شُمْسٍ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِي أَحَدَكُمْ أَنْ يَقُولَ هَكَذَا وَوَضَعَ يَمِينَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ وَأَشَارَ بِأُصْبُعِهِ ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَى أَخِيهِ مِنْ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِنْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ

✧ When we prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, one of us would gesture to his brother to his right or to his left. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished praying, he said: “What is the matter with one of you doing this, as if they were the tails of restive horses? It is enough for one of you to say like this,” and he placed his right hand on his thigh and pointed with his finger, “then greet his brother to his right and to his left.”
