حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ عَنْ حَفْصَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَتْ
لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ: يُبَايِعْنَكَ عَلَى أَنْ لا يُشْرِكْنَ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا إِلَى قَوْلِهِ وَلا يَعْصِينَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ قَالَتْ: كَانَ مِنْهُ النِّيَاحَةُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِلَّا آلَ فُلَانٍ فَإِنَّهُمْ قَدْ كَانُوا أَسْعَدُونِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَلَا بُدَّ لِي مِنْ أَنْ أُسْعِدَهُمْ. قَالَتْ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِلَّا آلَ فُلَانٍ.

✧ When this verse was revealed: 'They pledge to you that they will not associate anything with God' up to His saying 'and will not disobey you in what is right' (Qur'an 60:12), she said: One of those things was wailing. I said: 'O Messenger of God, except the family of so-and-so, for they helped me in the pre-Islamic era, and I must help them.' She said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Except the family of so-and-so.'
