حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَزْدِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْغِفَارِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَأَخِي رَافِعُبْنُ عَمْرٍو عَلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ وَأَنَا مَخْضُوبٌ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَأَخِي مَخْضُوبٌ بِالصُّفْرَةِ فَقَالَ لِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ هَذَا خِضَابُ الْإِسْلَامِ

دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَأَخِي رَافِعُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ وَأَنَا مَخْضُوبٌ بِالْحِنَّاءِ، وَأَخِي مَخْضُوبٌ بِالصُّفْرَةِ، فَقَالَ لِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ: هَذَا خِضَابُ الْإِسْلَامِ، وَقَالَ لِأَخِي رَافِعٍ: هَذَا خِضَابُ الْإِيمَانِ

✧ I and my brother Rafi' b. 'Amr entered upon the Commander of the Believers 'Umar b. al-Khattab while I was dyed with henna and my brother was dyed with yellow dye. 'Umar b. al-Khattab said to me: "This is the dye of Islam," and he said to my brother Rafi': "This is the dye of faith."
