✧ I said: “O Messenger of God, to what do you call?” He said: “I call to God alone, the One who, if harm touches you and you call upon Him, removes it from you; the One who, if you lose your way in a barren land and call upon Him, returns you; the One who, if a drought strikes you and you call upon Him, makes plants grow for you.” He said: I said, “So advise me.” He said: “Do not insult anyone, and do not disdain any good deed, even if it is meeting your brother with a cheerful face, or pouring from your bucket into the vessel of one asking for water. Wear your lower garment to mid-shin; if you refuse, then to the ankles. Beware of letting your lower garment hang low, for letting it hang low is from arrogance, and God [Blessed and Exalted] does not love arrogance.”
